Live View DSLR? |
As a retired fashion & commercial advertising photographer, my film equipment is obsolete. I shot from 4x5, 2 录 to 35mm. My camera of choice was Olympus for all my 35mm work, OM 1, 2 and 4. I have been using one of those point and shoot cameras Olympus. I love the live view, I have decided to get a digital DSLR. And the Olympus E510 is offering live view, something I would love to have had back in the 35mm day. I have a large collection of Olympus Lenses and was considering buying the 510 when it came out in late June. Most people have Canon on there mind. My question is why?? And is live view juice worth the squeeze? It really depends on what would benefit the photographer the most. If you have the lenses for olympus then go with the olympus. Between canon, nikon, and olympus there really is no major differences (It is a ford-chevy thing, everyone will always have their preference). For the most part you couldn't tell what image came from what camera. Personally I would go with the feel of the camera in my hand, some just don't feel correct- like they were designed for someone either way smaller or larger than me. I shoot a canon slr in film, but I would buy a nikon digital slr any day of the week over canon's rebel or 30D because it feels better and the menu is more logical. The 510 and the 410 both have live view. The problem that it has that uncomfortable delay from when you press the shutter to when the picture is taken- like on point and shoot models- which is the reasoning some people move up to an SLR in the first place (Just used the 410 today at my store). The delay is not there if you turn off the live view. It isn't an obscenely long delay like those of cameras from a few years back, but it is enough where you could miss something. I would recommend using the live screen for composing only- then shut it off to shoot, and never during anything with fast action. Source(s): Work in digital cameras and repairs. When you said, "I have a large collection of Olympus lenses" all other camera model choices suddenly fell out of the race. People shoot with Canon or Nikon because they have Canon or Nikon lenses. Canon and Nikon have the largest lens catalogues of any of the camera makers. But lenses in your bag are worth 100x more than lenses sitting on a store shelf to buy. Go buy that E510! -- Disclosure: I am the owner of www.lenslenders.com lens rentals in Canada. I can't see the purpose of the live view. I don't know about the Olympus camera but the Cannon will not auto focus in that mode that means that the user has to manual focus using the LCD on the back.If had to manual focus a lens, I would rather use the viewfinder. |
