I have an AAS in computer technology. I am a web master/designer, with a A+ in hardware and I have a seriousness with webgraphics & photography.
In short, I can walk into a bare room, set up a network backbone, build all the computers, put them online, build a business plan, build the website that sells (ecommerce) whatever the company is selling, hook up the finances and then master the website and make updates to the site.
Yet all of this does not seem to be enough to get a job in the world.
My best friend and I will be going to another college to get a batchlores degree. He suggests a degree in advertising because he saw that all the people at a local web firm has majors in advertising and minors in web building.
So, is he right about getting the advertising degree or is there another degree that would be better to have with the web design degree???
I'm not a networking guy and I am not a programmer. I hope that helps you to help me. haha THANKS IN ADVANCE! Advertising degree is something you should get. Nevertheless, people are more interested in seeing results and if you are able to produce results you will find work. When writing your resume and CV always include examples of your previous work and successes you achieved.
Internet marketing and advertising are very profitable and if you are able to design a website that sells and optimize it for the first pages of major search engines, people will pay you thousands just to do something like that to them.
Since you are good with web design, you can also find a lot of freelance web design jobs online. Take a look at this website:

Best regards, advertising or online marketing is the best for both of you First you need to decide what makes you happy. Second, I would no longer recommend you stop at a bachelors degree. Get a Masters or PhD in something you like.
Business, finance, science or politics are all good areas for now and into the future. There is way too much competition in the computer business and way too little life. That's my opinion.
The Open Source world will prevail unless of course Microsoft lawyers can twist the truth sufficiently. They are mean people. |
