What is a good way to advertise a small photography business that just started? something cheap!? Word of mouth is the cheapest and most effective means of advertising for the photographer. How you spread word of mouth is a difficult thing to do, but you can start with a showing of your work. My first paying photography job came from the photography in a coffeehouse I had my work displayed in. The coffee house did not charge me anything for it. I had business cards printed and available at the coffeehouse. The thing that makes word of mouth more effective is having a specialty. With a specialty, you can focus your exposure. For example, you could put a stack of pamphlets, with permission of course, in a bridal shop for wedding photography. Samples and pamphlets could be placed at day cares, again with permission, for a specialty in children's portraits. These are just examples, but as you will notice, the most successful photographers do not do a whole lot of advertising, because of their reputation and word of mouth. Cheap and very effective. Your local Penny Saver newspaper, or any other local classified paper. Build a website Search engine traffic is a wonderful thing. add it to yahoo yellow pages. It will pop up when people do a 'local' search. a web site would be great. Not very costly either sometimes they advertise them at yahoo.com business for less than $10 a year. |
