How successful is the use of photography in advertising? |
Can photographic images really enhance the success of an advert? For example: the shock tactics employed by Benetton through their shocking visual imagery... (Please provide examples if possible.) Actually, photography a very effective tool in advertising. See the links below for examples. The tactics employed through video/photography will depend on the product being sold eg hard to sell products. Life Insurance is not a sought after item so in advertising, photography may be used to depict a beautiful, comfy family life before someones death or disability and the horrifying effects (losing house, car etc) afterwards, as a result of the person having no insurance. In the end the ad will urge its target audience to call now and secure your family and assets. Some people might take offence to the tactics used eg in this link. http://gemssty.com/2006/11/21/advertisin... Whether or not consumers find the ads favourable, the company will be remembered and may even gain top of mind for the particular product. The aim of the advertiser is to rise above the clutter of ads and be seen and remembered. Source(s): http://www.childrens-express.org/dynamic... very extremely if you think about it, purely being able to see what you are buying helps to sell a product I did my graduate school thesis on this and related topics for a master's degree in advertising. The data showed that using photographs (as opposed to "art" illustrations, or all type) is the most effective way to get attention for a print advertisement. Go through a magazine and check the ads; most will be photos, not art or all type. big |
