Any art teachers out there?

Okay, if you're an art teacher or at least know something about this field. . . what's a good school for art? i want to be an art teacher, but every school i look at has issues, and I KNOW not to expect a perfect school cuz there isn't one. Still I want to take Japanese and Art classes and don't want to have to sacrifice good art classes for the language or vice versa. i found a few schools that looked good @ first, but then the student galleries weren't too great, so I'd be worried that I wouldn't learn anything if the work coming out wasn't as good as my classmates work in high school, you know? and please don't get on the topic of "what makes art 'good?'" cuz that's not the question.

I'm willing to go anywhere in the US for school. My family would prefer I hang around Chicago, but they'd be fine if I don't.

Where do you live? east coast or west coast or in the middle? Are you willing to move out of state?

I went to Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. Their art education program was good at the time, and has only gotten better and better. There are schools that specialize in Art, but I like the universities because they give you a well-rounded education. I had to take P.E, too! Look into ODU and let me know what you think. It would be interesting to see how others outside of the state of Va. perceive it.
While you are considering your degree, look into the school systems surrounding the art school. If they are good ones, you can consider substituting in their schools once you get the required college hours. As you get the teaching experience while you go to school, you'll see what needs to be "tweaked" so you are ready to jump into your first assignment as soon as you graduate!
Art Ed. is a very rewarding field, and Virginia Beach is one of the more progressive public school systems in the country. Many extension classes from other universities are offered to their teachers all year long for teaching credits. We continue to go to school while teaching the students, and can go on to get Master's and Doctorate degrees.
(And stay away from the online "draw this clown" offerings...lol)
