Are all art gallery owners rude?

I had an appointment today with the owner of this art gallery for the possibility of showing my art in his gallery. We talked on the phone and he asked me how long I've been painting and I told him since I was 12 which is 13 years, so he asked to meet with me and to bring my portfolio. I did and when I sat in his office he asked me if I've ever sold any of my art or ever been in any art show. I said no since I hadn't then he just gave me this disappointed look and said sorry because they don't show work of amatuers! He didn't even really give me a chance because he didn't even look at my portfolio and treated me like some kind of beginner which I'm not! I was so hurt and disappointed! Are all gallery owners this rude?

Now you know a question to ask on the phone before you make the trip.
On the other hand, you could have lied and/or paid a few bucks to go to a craft show to sell some of your work so the answer would be yes. Or used eBay.
But why have you been painting for 13 years and not sold anything? And why didn't you respond more assertively, since you and the works were there, "You invited me to bring my work without telling me that and I made the trip, so please look at these and talk to me about them since you have set aside the time to meet me."

yes your goin to get that response alotif your ever going to get some were your going to have lie tell them youve been in some art shows if your a good artist and can bring a lil more buety into the world its worth it. It is always a mistake to lump people together. It is also a mistake to lie as another responder suggested. Whatever the field, a person has to take a lot of rejections before someone gives you a chance. But I am sure that the someone is out there. Keep on truckin' babe.

It would have made sense if he asked you that on the phone before you went there. I don't think they are all like that, but then again a lot of people are like that nowadays.
