Possible Volunteer Work at Art Gallery?

ok i have a few concerns, the situation is that i was going to an art gallery tommorrow to take a look around and speak to the people there about volunteer work and possibly an internship in the fall, i already have a recommendation from a professor and i spoke to there cordinator earlier in the week about coming by sometime and she seemed excited about meeting me.
my 1st question regards the internship essay, i cannot do the internship right now i can't fit it in, plus i need extra units for the fall and it would be perfect then, so i haven't completed any internship packets because of that-do you think i'll be fine if it's just to volunteer?
my second question is whether or not i should wear jeans, it's an art gallery, and i don't own any dress pants that fit me well, and even if i wear them with a belt it's not me! can i get away with it if i dress it up?
if you guys have any other advice please share, i don't have any job experience...

I would explain to the coordinator that you would like to do an internship in the fall, but you want to get a preliminary feel for the gallery and would it be okay to volunteer a few days per week? He or she will appreciate your honesty and who couldn't use a volunteer - just remember, if you don't show up when you say you are going to or don't do a good job, your chances of that internship are small - as far as the dress code goes, wear something that reflects your individuality - but dress neatly, no jeans hanging off your butt, tee shirts - a nice shirt pressed and nice pair of khaki's might be nice - Good Luck!

To answer your questions...

1. I guess it depends on whether you're more interested in volunteering there or doing the internship. If you just want to volunteer, then see if you can work out an arrangement with the gallery.

2. You would have to speak to the people who run the gallery to see what their dress code is. Whatever they say, is what you have to follow. If you don't own any dress pants, maybe you can wear a skirt instead?
