Are you a musician?

if so please help me. pleeeeease? nobody has so far and i really need help. thanks :-)
i'm doing my GCSE music composition and have to hand it in in two weeks. i'm totally stuck. we have to write a piece to be played ina art gallery to represent different paintings which depict different times of day. (we can have 2-5 instrumnts and can represent any combo of morning, afternoon, evening and night). i've tried to do a jazz piece but found it really tricky so what shall i do? i'd like to do something with piano and a soprano and alto. but i don't know what. i need ideas eg a ragtime waltz in 3/4 in c major. any rhythm and melody tips would be much appreciated!!! :]

composing music can be very hard it depends on what sort of result you want. if its a joyful pice of music then focus on major scales and modes create a melody on the piano maybe and then use music programs to add add a string section to the mix. the easiest ways to create melodys is just play around with scales i.e major, minor, melodic minor or harmonic minor creates a nice sound. the rythm can be fast or slow, it can be in a different time signature dont just stick with 4/4. if you want to write a jazz piece the most common chord progression is ii-v-i you could chose a key play the progression using the ii-v-i chords from that key play it back and write a melody over it. from there you can add other instruments like string section, brass sections etc.

An early morning piece(art). starting with a gentle tune would be really nice.

Be a tad more ambitious - go for alternating 5/8 7/8 bars; look for some dissonance instead of harmony - 9ths are great; remember that reed instruments have a tonal quality which doesn't easily blend, so get a piano involved.

Keep the motif going in a kind of continuo setup (very baroque) but maintain the modern twist.

I would strongly suggest you have an acoustic guitar with a piano and a bass. Or just an acoustic guitar and a piano.
Or you could try a piano and a bass.
No drums..you need to set an ambient tone...go for some ambient music...in othr words, not a three minute pop song, but a meandering, melodically foraging kind of thing....more New Age than jazz.....

I would definitely compose for stringed instruments with such a short amount of time. A piano, violin, and cello ensemble wouldn't be too difficult and would also be very versitile.

Yes i am a musician. Well if your trying to come up with Morning: Do something sweet and simple for the alto and melodic for the soprano sax. Then once you get to the after noon get a bit more .. . active. . . like a regular afternoon (active) Then for night maybe you could do somthing either smooth, and cool.

Instruments - Woodwinds, flute, perhaps oboe, clarinet. A Piano or keyboard instrument of some sort.

Start off very relaxed, try to imagine a painting in your head - think "Ok, what music would fit this painting?". Start in the morning, use the flute to represent birds, perhaps the oboe could come in handy here as well...

Progress to the afternoon, still relaxed, imagine, perhaps, a sunset scene.

Then during the night, use the clarinet to create a nocturne-like romantic atmosphere, lots of twinkling chords on the piano...end very quietly and romantically.
