How much do i need to move to nyc? and how hard is it?

i want to move to nyc, i want to find a job in an art gallery, i have experience, but have had a hard time trying to land a job long distance. so i want to move there and find just any job while i find one in an art gallery. is nyc life worth it? is it more pumped up than it really is? is it easy to meet people, is it really expensive? are people happy there? will it be good for my career? thanks for your help and input

You will probably land there and take any job you can. Most people that go to New York for acting, modeling, art, singing, etc. do get a job anywhere they can while they pursue their break. Just involve yourself in the art community, so that you can network and learn the ropes.

You can meet tons of people! There are many people there that are miserable, but others are happy. It's just like any place, really. People are people, and it's what you make of it and how you relate. If you go there thinking that you're going to be miserable, then you probably will be. If you go there thinking that it will be exciting, and with the understanding that it is going to be a different experience then that is being more positive. No place is a fairytale, but if you go there and absolutely hate it, you can just leave. And then you know that you can pretty much hack it anywhere after that.

I loved it when I lived there. I felt like I was in the center of the world!

It is expensive. Will it be good for you career, I think so. You'll be exposed to an area that has more creative people in such a small area.

Here is a cost of living calculator that compares your current lifestyle to how much you need to make in NYC. But also keep in mind that people get paid better too, and you don't have to have a car.

It is not that hard to move to new york city.. if you are extremely determined to livein manhattan it may prove more difficult financially.. but there are many neighborhoods in brooklyn queens and the bronx that are a short subway ride away from the city and are much more affordable..
I definetly think its worth it. Ive lived in ny all my life and love it. There truly is something for almost everyone- it is hard to imagine living anywhere else- and trust me once you live here for a while you will feel the same way. Its because newyork is os huge and has so many different people and neighborhoods-- it makes the city feel alive. It is easy to meet people at work, throuh friends, at clubs, parties , etc. Don't expect to make friends with random people on the street . It is very expensive but you get used to it. Besides, you will probobly make more here then you would elsewhere so it evens out. People are averagely happy here I guess. I think that moving to nyc would be great for your career. There are so many art galleries throughout new york city, you will ahve way more opportunites than at any other city.
