Is there anyone out there with a B.F.A. in fine arts?

If so, what do you do? Has your degree helped you find jobs, or increase your pay any? Has it made it easier for you to get accepted into art galleries? More sells?
Just wondering because I'm a senior B.F.A. (oil)art major. Wondering how much this degree is actually going to help me.

Any type of degree is going to help and give you an advantage. But, with art talent goes a lot further.

A Bachelors won;t help you get a gallery show, but everything you've learned to get that Bachelors degree should have at least given you the tools to help you best express yourself.

Find out what you love to do and find a way to make a living doing it.

There are plenty of artists who don't have a degree and manage to make a living from their work. People won't necessarily buy your artwork because you have a degree, but because they like it. I can;t tell you how to get a show, but the easiest way to find out is to call a gallery and ask them.

Your advantage is going to be that you have more, and better paying, options while you try to make your way as a painter or whatever..

One option is to teach at at least the Community College level, if not at the local 4-yr university.

Yo have MANY more option from acquiring that degree that you wouldnt have optherwise, so feel good about attaining it.

Congratulations and good luck....=D

I have a BFA and had to go back to school to get certified to teach. I am now a middle and high school art teacher at a private school and I LOVE IT! Not much for pay, but lots of freedom.

My emphasis was sculpture and I did a lot of freelance work with that...but then I settled down and got married, so I needed a more stable and reliable income. My degree did nothing but give me a foundation for the education specialty. Art galleries don't care if you have a degree or not. Personally, I hate the snooty attitude that goes with the gallery environment.Having a sucessful and lucrative career just selling your art is as likely as becoming a rock star. Find out how you can use your talents in other ways.

Good luck!

The next step is that you MUST get your MFA. I'm graduating with my bfa this may and I have already gone on interveiws for my MFA. You can teach college with this degree and from that you will be taken seriously. Also, if you look up a lot of well known artists they all have a BA or BFA and an MFA...so yeah hope this helps.

my bf has one, but he also has an education degree, so he's going to be going into teaching
