Does this have a copyright?

I'm a sophomore self publishing my own book in a couple months. I want some good quality medieval art (it's a medieval fantasy fiction story) and found this place:

http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/galleries/des...

I've already picked out eight borders to use and inserted them in my manuscript already, with everything just how I want it. Then a friend tells me that I can't use them! They're copyrighted! I searched and searched for these, and I'm not going to give them up that easily. What do you think? If you had a book, would you publish these inside them? I do have this under the publication date on pg 2 in my book: "Borders & Decorations Courtesy of 漏 Clipart ETC"

I believe you have given them the credit they asked for in their license agreement section. Source(s): Vocational Instructor twenty years
Ask the webmaster you have too.
How do I credit FCIT in printed projects?
If you are just using a few clipart items for decoration putting "Clipart courtesy FCIT" in small print is sufficient. If you have more room please include the URL "http://etc.usf.edu/clipart" so that others can find the site. If you are including clipart as part of the content of a report, you should cite the illustration as you would do for any other source. Your teacher may specify a particular format for citing web sources. We have tried to make it easy for you by including information about the original source where one exists. In general you should include the original source, title of the item, when you downloaded it, and the URL where you found it. Here's an example:

Gray, Asa. The Elements of Botany for Beginners and for Schools. New York: The American Book Company, 1887. "Live oak leaves." Retrieved October 1, 2003, from http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/plants/live_o...

most everything has a copy write if the work was not originally done by yourself.
when wanting to use others work (photos, art, animation etc) permission must be sought from the person/s who constructed in which you could be asked to pay privileges for the use of the work. copy write law allows you to use a picture from another source, as long as you change 90% of the original work.
a suggestion if i may, your arts department at your school, ask a student to do the art work and reward them by credits in your book ie// art work done by:

i hope this helps,
have a happy and creative 2007
