Which North American city best supports the visual arts and artists? |
I'm an emerging artist thinking about relocating. I'm looking for a north american city that has a strong commitment to contemporary visual arts and artists; this city would demonstrate both significant private and public sector support, have a large number of sponsors, collectors, gallery venues and other infrastructure that would contribute to a rewarding artistic career. I'm sure many people have said this already, but New York is amazing. Don't get me wrong, you'll get a lot of competition and it's pretty deep/strong competition. If you want to sharpen your skills and be the best you can be, New York is a great place and a great challenge. Only other piece of advice if you show up in New York, is to build and hold on to a very positive attitude. Some folks are kind of not nice, but actually most are very supportive. Good luck. I live in the Chicago area and there is a great art influence and many creative people. I also wanted to go to art school and San Francisco had a lot of art shops and schools. I attended VCU in Richmond VA. it is rated in the top ten Art colleges in the world with extended learning class in counties outside the US. Very good school. With alot of ethnic back grounds. If you don't like it there. try Pratt Institute I think NY, LA school of the arts, or The one in Fort Laderdale FL. Vancouver. Awesome! Just the best, and it's CANADIAN!!!!!!! Living Life |
