How can I improve my lineart? |
First, I don't think what I can do now is TOO horrible . . . In fact, as long as I draw the entire thing in pencil it looks pretty good. The problem is, they only look good if I shade them in pencil, it never comes out looking right when I just do lineart and color it in. Is this just practice? If so, what can I practice to help me improve? If not, what can I do to help my lines? (If you want to see what I mean, you can look at my deviant art profile at http://vixctor.deviantart.com -- the pencil stuff is all kept in my scraps, the gallery is all colored drawings.) some of your layouts and ideas are good, the sandbox memories has storybook illustration style, keep practicing that, the previous answer is correct about lines vectoring smoothness, also may try adding more shades and also shadows, imagine characters in spot light, where the whites would highlites front and blacks would shade sides and edges, and shadow effect on the ground and walls, and not sure what tools you are using, but if photoshop, may want to try others like corel painter, and portalgraphics openCanvas http://www.corel.com/servlet/satellite/u... http://www.portalgraphics.net/en/... possibly even manga studio, or poser, http://www.e-frontier.com/go/mangastudio... ArtRage 2 http://www.ambientdesign.com/artragedown... GIMP - Windows installers http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.h... Plastic animation paper http://www.plasticanimationpaper.dk/... art.com artPad http://artpad.art.com/artpad/painter/... Benettonplay! Flipbook http://www.benettonplay.com/toys/flipboo... so keep on drawing and have fun,鈽?br /> .. I would suggest varying your line weight...commonly known as thick/thin transitions. check out this site for lots of great creative examples of lineart, pay attention to how the lines are laid out...none of them are the same thickness. http://www.vexels.net/search.php?q=linea... I agree with the previous answers. Let me suggest, however, another idea to help you improve anatomical correctness. Find actual pictures of people in poses you like and trace them with some tracing paper. Trace it two or three times and then try just drawing it. You'll see improvement with each drawing. Keep it up ! You now need to learn to draw. You lack a lot of skill, and much of what you do is just manga style tricks. There are some good art book and courses out there. I find that the burn Hoggarth books are quite good. Maga tends to be done in bw, so you want to use india ink on 2 ply board. Use a nib pen and a brush to do the inks. If you practice your skills for a few years and you use the right materials, you'll get some nice work done. |
