I bought the artwork at a gallery about a year and a half ago, from a very reputable dealer. The artist is known regionally, and I love the piece, but I need the cash. I don't know if I can ask the dealer if they would buy it back--and I don't know if I can get my purchase price back. I don't even want to make a profit, I just need to sell the piece. This being my first foray into art purchasing, all I know is that art is not a very liquid investment. But I'm hoping there's a way to sell it.
Call the dealer. If there is not a lot of work by that artist around, the dealer might be able to sell it for you to one of his other clients. Other than that, you might want to find out if there are any OTHER galleries that show that artists work and inquire of THEM if they could sell it for you. Either way, it's probably NOT going to happen fast. You most likely cannot get your purchase price back, since most art sold by living artists is on consignment from the artist and by now the artist has been paid for the artwork you bought. No gallery is going to call the artist and ask for the money back.
You COULD try ebay, but unless the artist is really well-known or for some other reason EXTREMELY desireable, it's unlikely you'll get as much as you spent.Try Yahoo Auctions, It is totally FREE and not as crowded. It is also easy-er
