Moving to the city!? |
I am moving to the city, but it seems like the people my are (early-mid 20's) are pretentious, hippy-ish snobs. It goes by neigborhood, if you live in the arts district, they're there at every gallery crawl and coffee shop...and they're my neighbors too lol. This may seem silly, but how do I avoid getting sucked into that pseudo-mod, starbucks is so-5 years ago, i shop at IKEA crowd? Im brown too, so Im not so sure I would blend anyway, but I think it's worth asking...OR if anyone else has a similar story, please share! I assume you're talking about San Francisco? If so, it's just a weird city. Anyway, just get away as often as you can and refuse to conform. Getting involved with some community service group would be a great way of keeping a good perspective. First of all, your skin color has nothing to do with it. The most popular girl in my Southern California Orange Country private school was black and she could have been considered a snob. So to assume that people won't let you in because of the color of your skin is ridiculous, and prejudice of you. But to avoid that, hmm...I don't know. I found myself falling in that same trap until I moved out of America for a while. I guess you'll just need to keep a right perspective. Be charitiable and volunteer. Oh and conversely, don't exclude anyone just because they have money, try and keep a open mind with all people you come across. |
