Name for type of paintings? |
Hi is there a particular name for this type of art / pictures. The pictures are of 1940 adverts here is an example: www.advertisingarchives.co.uk/... Many Thanks Do you mean the ones in the gallery? I have always known them as advertising posters. I don't know of any other name for them, sorry. Its all in the name ..... Advertising I am afraid I do not understand your question, art work of the 1940's was bland because of the war. some of the best illustrations were inspired by the 1930's images? the 30's were inspired by romance and the Art Deco movement, Norman Rockwell & Leyendecker in the US advertising art. futuritist art was also a fashion, inspired again by art deco and the futurist movement in Italy. There was no great art movement however in the 40's due to the global fighting, and it is the 50's, when social-realsim, the artwork of Stalin and Hitler hit the posters in the west, with a change in political leadership to more Left wing policies. |
