What makes an interesting/appealing website? |
I am an artist updating my website serving as an online portfolio. Aside from galleries featuring my art, I want to include elements to make the website interesting to visit and omit useless 'fluff'. What features do you like in a website (ex: artist's/host blog, message board, free desktop/avatar images...) and what do you find annoying? An uncluttered simple feel, easy navigation, background colors that are easy on the eyes attract most people. The opposite is annoying and repels. Keep a focus for each page of your web and keep the design of each page thematically consistent so it doesn't look like a different website each time a new link within your web is clicked. I would like to read materials and view objects that had some inspirational effect on the artist's works, things that explain, show the thought and conceptualization behind the artist's work. Hotlink photos of piece of art to relevant information about it. Anything about the artist and the artists background puts a human face on it, but keep out items that are too irrelevant.
