I own two Art Galleries/Frame shops and want to incorporate barcode technology to manage my inventory.
I think you first need to determine what all you want it to do - like for taking inventory, scanning in shipments, register scanning, etc. Then where do you all need it - will having one pc be adequate or will you need more than one and/or handheld units. It can be as complex and expensive as you need it to.
I've worked at couple different large companies that use barcodes. You can check systemid.com to get an idea of everything that is available (I don't know how their prices are though). Some systems are as simple as just a barcode reader (like a gun some retailers use) plugged into the serial port on a pc (barcodes print with a standard laser or thermal printer). Our company uses handheld units (for scanning shipments and taking inventory), pc's, and thin clients.
You might be able to find a simple software package and a couple cheap guns will fill your needs. |
