How do you have a fun day out on limited resources? |
I live in London, mostly I go to the park or Art Galleries need to try something different that does not cost too much, any sensible ideas out there please? I'm here on a working holiday and I'm always on the lookout for things to do/see that are reasonable. I collect brochures for attractions from Tourist Info offices, stations etc.Keep an eye out for free concerts etc There's a magazine re London attractions - this usually has rebates. Buy a cheap all day bus ticket and travel to another part of the city or out of London altogether. At this time of year it's nice to visit woods etc where there are bluebells etc. Epping Forest is close to London and there's a good visitor's centre. Lots of the art galleries and museums have special attractions at various times. Go onto the net and put in the name of an area/place that sounds interesting and see what is available and if it catches your fancy. There are books about London Walks - either get one from Amazon or your local library. It's good fun and very interesting and beats walking around aimlessly. Have you visited the Coram's Hospital Museum? This was the first foundlings' hospital, founded by Thomas Coram and supported by William Hogarth and Geo Fredk Handel. The displays are truly very moving as well as interesting and the admission fee is modest. It's near Russell Square. How about researching your family tree? If your family originates in the UK you can spend time visiting the General Register Office and the Public Record Office to search for certificates and other info. Then you can perhaps have days out looking round the areas where your ancestors lived and the churches they worshipped in, where they are buried etc. Do you have a digital camera? I find taking pics of the interesting things I see, wildlife/flowers etc actually adds to the pleasure in exploring new places. I hope you find something of use in my reply. Good luck! walk along the Thames path.,or the museums are mainly free cycling - any nice cycle tracks in London?. Art galleries and museums sound great to me but you have already done this. Go out for lunch with a friend - find a place that does two lunches for the price of one - there are a few. Well its going to be a nice day, you could try the Thames, or go to one of the many parks around London, there's the London eye, don't know how much that is? me i would go to the park and chill out with a good book, may even take a picnic |
