Seattle: How gloomy is it? / What area to live for 36 y.o. single woman? (2 part question)? |
1) I'm moving from L.A. to Seattle and want to know how many days of gloom per week I should expect? Is it mostly gloomy WITH rain, or just mostly gloomy withOUT rain? 2) I'm a 36 y.o. single woman. What part of Seattle is a nice place to live, where there are people my age, coffee houses, art galleries, pets, etc? Thanks! That is great you are moving to Seattle! It is a great place to live. In the summer you should expect almost all sunny days. In the fall about 2-3 rainy or cloudy days a week. In the winter 4-6 gloomy days and in the spring 3-4 rainy/cloudy days. Bellevue is a really nice place to live. About half the population of seattle, but still a nice city that is only 10 minutes from seattle. There are art galleries and cofffee houses everywhere. Good luck. Go across the bridge into Bellevue. Much cheaper and very nice. Yes, the area is gloomy and has the highest suicide rate in America. The area also is the most unchurched city in America, Only 2% claim church membership. So sad. 1. Its mostly gloom with drizzle. Not really hard rain. But it gives an amazing amount of green to the landscape. I never use an umbrella since it doesn't rain that hard usually. 2. Pretty much anywhere you want will have that. If you give a better description, I can tell you more specifically where you might fit. Expensive? Cheap? close to downtown? etc. I don't know that it's so GLOOMY...I mean compare it to a REALLY smoggy day in LA...same kinda deal. But the beauty that comes with the rain is something we can all appreciate. Beautiful green grass, trees, flowers :) Anyway...It's not that bad! As far as where to live: income usually determines that as would probably be the truth as far as any city in the US. Another thing to consider/question is whether you are renting, plan to own~and if so, a house, condo...boathouse?! Just kidding on the boat house, although there are LOTS in Seattle! As a single woman, I can say if I COULD I'd live in the West Seattle area (very close to Seattle's famous beach, Alki) or I'd live downtown, or Capitol Hill. Everything within walking distance...but again, budget and income are a big factor in all of that. I am not sure how everyone determining that Bellevue is a lot cheaper...that's considered a little more 'ritzy'...?? but whatever! Good luck and welcome to Seattle :) bELLEVUE IS EXPENSIVE TO LIVE. i AGREE WITH THE WEST SEATTLE IDEA. IT`S LIKE LOOKING AT THE BIG CITY FROM A SMALL CITY. AND IT RAINS ALL THE TIME BUT YOU WILL HAVE NICE SKIN AND ABOUT CHURCH YOU WILL BE VERY WELCOMED. BORN AND RAISED HERE Seattle is cloudy about 2/3 of the time; however, we don't get any more rain that New York City, contrary to popular opinion. As to nice areas, the "east side" (east of Seattle proper) is very nice for the most part. There are museums galore, as well as MANY botanical gardens, and tons to learn about. As this is the corporate home of Starbucks Coffe (as well as a couple of sizable competitors like Seattle's Best), you can barely go around a corner without finding SOME kind of coffee shop! |
