My mom's coming 2 visit me in London (Covent Garden)! What are some fun things for her 2 do while Im at work? |
I don't think that she wants to walk too much, but being able to walk from Covent Garden would be nice...just not too far. She likes art (galleries more than museums), and anything relaxing. She won't want to be in the middle of huge crowds (tricky in that area know, but I think that it is doable.) Any serious suggestions would be greatly appreciated! She isn't used to big cities and she is 61 years old. First, Covent Garden is fun to wander around if she likes shopping. There may be street artistes performing, and there are loads of places to sit down for a cup of tea. If she likes ballet and/or opera, the Royal Opera House may have a matinee on. Not that far away is Trafalgar Square, where she can visit the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery. They're free, apart from special exhibitions. From the Strand, she can either walk or take a bus to Aldwych; across the road is Somerset House, with exhibitions at the Hermitage Rooms and the Courtauld Institute of Art Galleries, and on a dry day she can sit outside with a drink overlooking the Thames. There's a nice shop as you enter; then walk across the courtyard where the fountains are on! http://www.multimap.com/maps/?#t=l&map=5... http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/... http://www.npg.org.uk/live/index.asp... http://www.somersethouse.org.uk/whats_on... Ironing and washing & that is serious keep her indoors please..................... terrorism!! You could visit both the Tates (Moden and Briton) and as you said not to walk too much, you can catch a boat between too (not expensive) Hi, That's so sweet that your so caring about making her stay so special! :-) I think, depending on finances, you could set up a few guided tours for her to museums and such like. Some of those can pick her up or she can meet them at easy meeting places. That way she won't be on her own and will be safer, she'll have a well informed person telling her all about what interests her etc. Hope this helps and you guys have a great visit :-) clean your house Watching t.v. or visiting a library to read books and magazines. This probably the best for a 61year old! |
