What's the name of this neighborhood in seoul? |
A friend's friend is going to seoul & has asked for places to go to, but as it's been 10 years for me, I don't remember any names!! There's a neighborhood where young people would go to hang out, it was one of "the places". I think there was an art gallery or cultural center nearby. It's within the Seoul center, in the general area of Shinchon, i.e., not the other side of Han River, and it's not the area by Ewha nor Yonsei. Adam is right.. you are thinking of Hongdae, which is short for Hongik University. This area is full of hip clubs, western food outlets like N.Y. Fries, Smoothie King, Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Piza Hut, etc. During the day, it is mostly university students coming and going from class, with some cool shopping. At night, clubs get going around 11pm. 20-somethigns come from all over Seoul area. Best jazz clubs are here as well. On saturday and sundays, from 1:00 pm, the small park outside of the Hongdae gate hosts an arts-n-crafts bazaar, with different artists on different days. Also in the same area is the theatre the Korean B-Boys crew "Extreme" is using to stage their open run of "The ballerina who loved a B-Boy", which has recently been picked up for a run in London. (very cool) Because it is known as the "artsy" area, art students can purchase supplies in this area cheaper than anywhere else in Seoul. Even young kids come to Hongdae: there is a store called "Gotcha!" on the main drag that has nothing but those toy machines that dispense "collector" toys to hang on your cell-phone. In-Sa Dong, and DaeHak ro maybe, galleries, little shops selling traditional stuffs and tea houses I am not sure,,, this may help http://english.tour2korea.com/index.asp... If it's not the area by Ewha or Yonsei, and in not sure if you mean Shinchon or Shincheon, but it could be KangNam... but thats not really centre of Seoul, so I would go with HongDae too... I always enjoy going to Myeong Dong for shopping, or people watching. Sorry have to cut this short... if you need more info, send me a message! from what i can see, as the art gallery it's really not an art gallery and probabely refering to the galleria a department store in abkujung dong where in the past 10years alot of young people has made it their hang out before any of the other places like hong dae shinchun made it's mark as a young hang out. whan it's been awhile since u've been to korea like 10yrs u can get confused to witch side of the river it was on because korea is not layed out like the u.s. where north, south, east, and west is layed out in basic formate. korea one could only guess to where north or south is. and to u'r additional detail it really sounds like abkujung dong where in about 10yrs ago fortune telling started from there in korea. |
