How do you put an image on a sheet of stainless steel? Can it be done with a printer? |
I saw an art gallery show some images this way and I'd like to do my own pictures like this. these images are created with liquid emulsion, sometimes sold under the name " liquid light". This photographic emulsion can be poured onto any variety of surface, and is exposed by a photographic enlarger. There are of course various other methods of printing on metal. In the mid to late 19th century there was a popular form of photography known as ferrotypes or tintypes in which a photo sensitive plate of metal was placed into a camera and exposed like a piece of film. However, instead of producing a negative where the tones are reversed, it created a positive print. Below is a link showing you various alternative photographic methods of printing. This is something that you just aren't going to be able to do with a printer unfortunately. Source(s): http://www.alternativephotography.com/pr... There are a couple of different ways. If it is a small sheet, say 8.5X11, if you make a photocopy of the image, heat the sheet, place the copy onto the sheet and use a brayer to roll it on, the ink should heat up and transfer to the metal. Way two is to use photo emulsion fluid on the sheet and project the image onto it. The box of emulsion should have more instructions how to bring the image out. But, then you could go any size. Or just go ask the gallery/artist how it was done. There is image transfer paper you can buy for fabric, but I didnt find any for metal, and thats probably not the look that you want. The company I work at puts images on metal whenever we get an order for it. Sometimes alot but its not in high demand. Its just screenprinting where I work, but a 4 color process actually yeilds some pretty decent results. The other answers are probably more on the line of what you want but I just had to share. |
