Information request about artist "Bland" c.1920-30 in sydney, australia? |
have a painting signed Bland that my grandfather bought c 1920-30 at mosman, sydney where several artists of note stayed in a small colony at a remote beach, dobroyd point or middle head. The artists, poor at the time would sell paintings to buy beer at the buona vista pub in mosman hence my grandfathers involvement. Painting is in the "heidelberg" style showing beach artist huts and trees, ocean cliff in bgd. so far only "emily beatrice bland" seems to qualify though she signs EB Bland the surname is very similar looking to what is on my painting (oil on canvas). As no other female artist from this group has been shown some interest expected from local historians. painting is very similar to a tom roberts in the NSW art gallery and appearss to be in same location. was this a woman "groupie" learning a new technique from these bohemians? The internet is sometimes a great source of info. Type the info (artist name etc.) into the address box, see what you come up with. Even an art-identification specialist. Otherwise look up places such as the NSW art gallery, email them and 'pick their brains'. I have a painting too that I'm having trouble finding a history on. Maybe the artist was an un-noted 'groupie' or you may have a prized piece hanging on your wall. Good luck |
