Crazy question my maths teacher gave me? |
a large painting (3500 mm long and 2200 mm high) has been purchased for an Art gallery. THe door into the exhibition hall is 2040mm high and 820mm wide. will the painting fit through the door? yes Yes, if tilted. the door has sides 2040mm and 820mm. thus the diagonal distance is sqrt (2040^2+820^2) solving this we get 2198.63mm now the painting is 2200mm high at the smallest side. So, it will not come out. Best way to do to take the paining out of the frame. pack the frame and roll the painting ... take it out and after reaching destination, reassemble the same ... simple! to answer this question, you'll need to figure out the "diagnoal" distance of the door. to calculate that, just think of the diagnoal and the two sides of the door forming a right triangle. Therefore, (2040^2 + 820^2)^(1/2) = about 2198.63mm (shorter than 2200mm, which is the shorter side of the painting). therefore, the painting will NOT fit through the door!!! Won't fit. Maybe try stepping on it? no, it wont fit through the door... By the way, this is not a maths question. The painting definitely can come out as it is not with frame. Roll it up. |
