Suppose a traveler wanted to visit a museum, an art gallery, and the state capitol building. 45-minute tours are offered at each attraction hourly from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. (6 different hours). Solve the problem, disregarding travel time. In how many ways can the traveler visit all three places in one day? The times 10 to 3 are the starting times of the tours, so there are 6 of them. You have 6 time slots to choose 3 from. which is simply: 6 * 5 * 4 = 120 this is the correct answer He has 6 different times to go, so the first number is 6 The first place he goes to, he will have 3 choices, so the second number is 3 The second place he goes to he will only have 2 choices (cause he already used one), so the third number is 2. The last place he goes to, he won't have a choice (because there is only one left), so the last number is 1 By multiplying the total number of chances he has to take the tour (6), times the number in each choice (3, 2, and 1), you will get your answer: 6*3*2*1 = 36 different combinations Well it sounds like you need to write a list out: start with museum, art, capitol then museum, capitol, art and keep going until you mix up all the ways to visit the places. There are probably only 6 ways to visit them in a different order, not positive though. Make a list showing a different order each time until you can make anymore orders then count. not sure if this is right but...... 10AM to 3PM is 5 hours 5 hours = 300 mins 300 mins with 45 mins each tours that will give you time to be on 6 tours. you got 3 option and you have to pick one of those option for 6 times without repeat the last tour that you took. so the equation should be... 3*2*2*2*2*2= 96 ways Count the start times on your fingers, then you will see. Start at 10 am. And go to 3 pm. Then you will see there are 6 start times. Get it? |
