Math Riddle Question?

Eight figurines are stolen from an art gallery. The police recover them all. In fact, they find nine. One is a fake. It looks and feels like the others however, it weighs slightly less. The police have a balance scale they can use to find the fake figurine. How can they find the fake in only two weighings?

I can't figure it out. Anyone want to help? Details plz.

set 3 aside
you now have 6
put 3 on each side of the scale
you have 2 possible results:

1) if the scale is equal you know that the lightest one is not in there. it must be in one of the first three you removed

2) if the scale is not equal you know that the lightest one is in the side that is higher up

if it is # 2):

if this is true, you remove one of the three from the side that is the highest up and place the other 2 on the scale (one on each side)
if they are equal you know that the one that you removed is the lightest one
if the scales are not equal then you know it is the one that is higher up

if it is # 1):

if it is number 1, you take 2 of the first 3 that you set aside and place it on the scale (one on each side)
if the scale is equal then you know that the one you set aside is the lightest one
if the scale is not equal then you know that the one that is highest up is the lightest one.

10 pts please...i figured it out :PI could see 3 or 4 but I am dying to see someone come up with 2
I asked almost the same question several months ago & I got the answers for it. Here's the link to my question, if you wanna find out the answer.

no way man
1. Put three figurines on one side of the scale and three on the other side. Leave three off. If the scale balances even, the fake is in the group that was left off. If the scale is less on one side it is in that group.
2. Now that you have found the group it is in. Put one figurine from that group on one side of the scale. Put another figurine that group on the other side of the scale. Leave one off. If the scale balances even, the fake is the one left off. If the scale is less on one side, that one is the fake.
