How money am i entitled too? |
I have been married 3 yrs unhappily and have a son who is almost 3 yrs old.Husband and i seperated for a year he just moved back in but the fighting has continued so i want a divorce.I only have1200 dollars right now in my personal savings account that i just opened plus the 435 dollars i am going to get paid on Monday for babysitting my younger cousin.I do work right now for a museum (i was a liberal arts major in college)and before that at an art gallery that restored paintings so i have worked through out my marriage. My husband is an accountant so he makes more than me but we have joint checking account with 6 grand in it and savings with a little over 15 grand so am i entitled to at least half of that money since i helped to contribute? Can i take it without permission since both are names are on both accounts? We live in NYC No no no! You can really get yourself in some trouble with taking that money to move out of the home. You need to wait to have the court system divide the money out. I would wait and do it legally. Is there someone you can stay with until you can find a job and save ups some money? If not you can stay where you are until you find a job and save up on a months worth of pay and then leave. Source(s): The other option is to find proof of the money you put into the account and take that much out that way when it goes to court you have proof of what you contibuted. You should get back as much as you contributed to the savings account. If you contributed half, you should get half. If you contributed 1/6th, you should get 1/6th. Don't take it without telling your husband. Wait until divorce proceedings begin. You're entitled to as much money as you EARN. keep it all legal and be in the safe side |
