I work at a small art gallery where 90% of the art is not priced. My boss says that its a waste of time to price the art if there are no customers in the store. Is this correct?
Art is one of those commodities that the price is irrelevant. If a patron wants to buy a piece, they'll ask....
Many art gallery owners will adjust the asking price of a piece based on what they think the buyer will pay... (Think of it like selling a car..) The higher the price, the bigger commission for the gallery.
In addition, some of the more "shady" art gallery owners I have known conceal prices so they can misrepresent to the artist what the buyer's offer is and keep the difference. |
