Going to be working around someone with a cold- chances that I will get the cold? |
Hi! I am trying to make it through this week without getting a cold, as I am going home from college for the first time in two months. I work at an Art Gallery on campus, and my boss is sick. Normally I wouldnt worry, because we are usually in different rooms, and I am hardly around him. Howver, on Thursday, we have to move some of the art around, and we will be in close contact with each other...within one or two feet, for a hsort period of time....sometimes even closer, as we will both share the load of some of the heavier pieces of art. Do you think I will be well over the weekend? Even if I am going to get a cold, i want to make it over this weekend, so I can see my family....advice? Viruses are transferable structures so there is always a chance of exposure. However, simply being in proximity of someone with a cold doesn't guarantee you'll acquire one. Factors such as personal immune fitness relative to resting, nutrition, hydration, and stress, are equally important risk indicators. My suggestion is to make sure you get ample rest and hydration. You should also focus on hygiene in terms of washing your hands (or use a hand sanitizer) after touching anything he touches, and especially before eating. Just to be on the safe side, perhaps supplementing your diet with Vitamin C or Zinc would not be a bad idea as well. Finally, unless you are recovering from a viral infection or presently experiencing cold or flu symptoms, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I doubt he'll still be infectious by Thursday if it's a common cold. I wouldnt worry too much about it. But if you really want to prevent it, after any contact with him, make sure to wash your hands with soap. hell with your situation with not being home in 2 months i would want to get sick so momma can take care of you like when you were a kid. keep a bottle and disinfectant with you and one of those no water needed antibacterial cleanser. get Lysol and spray what he/she touches like door knobs chairs that sort of thing.. |
