How do i price my art for sale?

im totally new to this, but i have art from the past that i would like to reproduce and sell. how do i determine a price and how do i get galleries to display them?

compare them to the prices of other vendors, and also factor in supply cost and time spent on them, you want your effort rewarded
Go to sidewalk art show and check out the prices.
im an artist myself and believe me ive been there and confused. definitalty take many pics of work, from different angles as well and make a portfolio. as the other person suggested artwalks are a very good place to meet with other artist and learn how you should price your work. the portfolio of course will help with the galleries. also if there are any places like a bazaar or a basic shop that charges maybe $ 10 for the booth setup per weekend or day thats a great place to get some of your work out there. when i lived in long beach,ms before the hurricane i sold my art at a bazaar until i saved enough to buy a shop. the options are out there, just keep looking and doing what you do..
personal of course but i know everyones differnt. hope it helps a little with knowing you are'nt the only one who has had trouble. i went mad with figuring it out it seemed lol..
I paint also and sell. Just ask a price you concider decent. Concider your time and how much you want for a wage (example $12.00per hr.), also how much resourses you put into it (example $30.00 worth of paint, $20 worth of canvas), and what profit you want to make, like $70 profit.

6 hours to complete @ $12.00 = $72.00
14 x 17 canvas & three tubes of paint = $65.00
Profit =$70.00
Total: $207.00

It is common for beginner artists to sell alittle lower. It insurse your name gets well known. After you sell a few paintings and you find they are selling faster than what you can paint, it means your selling to low. The opisite if your pricing to high, if your not selling much. It is kind of a trial & error thing, you need to "feel" what best soutes you. Of course when you get well known, you can ask alot.

When you start making larger profits you can begin to make prints, artist proofs, and G-clays of your originals so your won't have to spend so much time on painting originals. Prints are a cash cow and help provide everyday living expenses. Also as you live off profits from prints, you can be painting for shows and exhibitions.

As for galleries, their are consignment galleries that alow you to sell year round in a Gallery. They are best galleries to display prints in. You will need to show them your portfolio and ask them if they will consign you. They usually charge 60%/40% split. If your selling to people dirrectly, your price should be lower than the price in the Gallery. You both benifit more if you and the costumer do business directly.

Portfolio should include an artist statement(what, how, and why you make art). An artist statement is very personal you write. Portfolio also should include a Biography(written in second person), 7-10 photo slides of your work or a CD. You need to have them labels too. Make sure it's your best work. Also include your CV or Artist Resume stating your education, professional experience, exhibitions, and awards.

Just one more tip,...If you are selling in more than one gallery, make sure your price is the same from gallery to gallery, or else people will get angry.

Good Luck, hope this helps

Well, your odds. You have a medium chance at selling your work. Many people, including myself, love to go out and buy original work from people at art festivals. I love to see all of the ideas they create... which leads me to where you should sell your work...i STRONGLY suggest you set up a place at an upcoming art festical in your town/city. You could always have a garage sale... but i wouldn't recommend it.

And as to finding out how much you should sell it for.. well thats a tuffy. If you provide frames... then of course the price goes UP. But if you don't, the price goes down. (i would by cheap frames). Also... look for a local art studio adn take your work to the art teacher there. She or he can analyze your art work and see how much its worth. Also, the price depends on the type of materials you use. Like, charcoal sketches usually go cheaper than paintings. BUT charcoal sketches go for a higher price than normal pencil sketches.

Hope i didn't confuse you! and have fun drawing and sellin ur work! PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
