What % of cash do galleries take if they sell your art work? |
I am trying to get my work to sell....as well as to get some publicity for my work. Here in Belgium, it's about ten to 15%. Why don't you try E-bay, like I did, to sell your work? depends but it's going to be at least 50% i figure. remember they have to have the space, heat & cool, hire someone to be there all the time, do advertising and also do the work to get the merchandise in. plus wrap up the wares after they are sold. Less than 50% would be a surprise. Most retail markups on anything are at least that. this depends if you are a young or more established artist. If you are young artist it can be up to 60% that the gallery keeps. If they try to keep more than 30%, find a different gallery! 50% or more for a commercial gallery is pretty standard--less for nonprofit, museum space, or coffeeshop. But this should all be up front on an agreement/contract you sign before you show. 50% is pretty standard but GET IT IN WRITING!!!!!!! There can be hidden fees, like making you pay for food and stuff! |
