I am a fine artist. Gallery going to offer me CONTRACT OF REPRESENTATION What is it,What to expect?

I am an artist and I don't now anithing about artist-gallery relationship (I started my professional work 2006) I'v gotten a e-mail from gallery in Barselona (The Art Cell)with offer of a CONTRACT OF REPRESENTATION. What is it? Could somebody tell me more about it? What can I expect from this contract and what is good and bad could be in this contract?

i am a gallerist but only familiar with german language contracts. watch out for the following:
a: how is exclusivity dealt with?
b: what is your share of sales, what the gallery's?
c: for how long does the contact run?
d: terms of termination:
e: who pays for transport of the artworks?
f: i had a look on their website. strangely enough i cannot find any names of artists at all.
g: who pays for the advertising (invitations, vernissage etc)
h: if they give a rebate, is it off their share or will it be deducted from yours or equally?
i: who does the pricing?
j: there could be many more points depending on the individual circumstances.
in any case: you need a contract in your native language, show it to somebody and also suggest any changes for points you feel uncomfortable with. in our understanding a contract is something mutual and has to be agreed to by both sides. if i can be of more help just let me know.
You need to contact an artist management company (check the phone book). They can not only explain this to you, but also review the contract and negotiate on your behalf.
I agree with the first person - it would help to have someone "on your side." If you can't find an artist representation company, seek a lawyer as they deal with contracts everyday. The lawyer can talk things over with you and you can establish what you want.

The "deal" will probably include something like: you provide a certain amount of art pieces for them to display. This will expose your paintings to customers who otherwise wouldn't have known about you. If there is an interest in a painting the gallery may take a certain percentage of the sale. So it's a mutually benefical relationship - but things to negotiated might be how many paintings you can hang (how much wall space they're offering) and how big the percentage is. Buena Suerte!!
