Can some art galleries be "for profit" but Non-Commercial? Anyone?
Sure. "Non-Commercial" simply suggests that the owner has little expectation of making much, if any, money. This is usually seen as a good thing. The owner refuses to sell out to popular taste and represents only artists whose work she or he really admires and believes in, even knowing that such a principled stance may cost the gallery money. The gallery owner still expects to receive a profit (i.e, a percentage of the money the artist gets) from selling the individual pieces of art. It's perfectly compatible for a business to be "for profit" and lose money at the same time. |
