Should art be paid for by those who appreciate it? |
I dont know how common this is in other places but where I live we have a couple of huge museums / art galleries which are free at the point of entry, but obviously funded from the government or the lottery. I've been a couple of times and seen rubbish like tampons hanging from a wall (but thats a matter of taste I guess) my point is art is definately somewhat of an elitist thing and even though it being free might encourage a broader section of society to go, the money is desperatley needed in other areas and people who want to view these things should pay the premium! You're rambling. What is the point you're trying to make? It sounds interesting, but I can't understand what you're talking about! only in a market ecconomy typical greedy human........ always grabbing for the almighty dollar. I believe what you are saying is that the government should not subsidize culture and arts? If that is the case I agree to some extent, we should not be cutting art, culture, or music out of the public schools but should be less involved in the private sector. Yes indeed...why should we pay for drivel like an unmade bed or a stuffed sheep portrayed as art?People who say they see past the obvious and tell the rest of us we're thick for not appreciating it are liars. Remember when that man took a picture which was differently coloured lines in modern art style( eg Jackson Pollack) to an exhibition and many 'critics' were admiring it saying silly things like..."Oh, yes... I can see what he's trying to show...sadness tinged with humour showing the contrasts in life..etc etc.." They didn't like it when the man admitted that it was drawn by his horse, with a paintbrush in his mouth. He should have kept quiet and sold it for a few hundred pounds. I guess it depends what you class as Art? What about things like dance and music? Free music lessons at school? A lot of kids' parents can't afford for them to have private music lesson and the free school ones are their only chance. Wouldn't it be sad if someone with a real love and maybe talent for music was denied this chance? I agree about the art galleries though - only students bother to walk round them! And the odd tramp looking for shelter from the rain. Hmm, yes there are many many things that seem like a waste of money, but the thing is there has to be somewhere for people to go and things to do when you get out of the gutter. |
