Where can I purchase art studies? |
Due to my being a poor student, I of course can't afford most art. But I love art studies (a study is a drawing, sketch or painting done in preparation of a finished piece), which for a variety of reasons I find fascinating. Unfortunately, I live in an area with few art galleries (which sometimes sell studies), so I need to make most of my purchases online. Are there any sites that specialize in or sell these? I've found many studies and works by Renoir online at EBAY. The BIGGEST thing is provenance. Is it REAL? If it has the documentation you KNOW it will come with a price if the creator is well known鈥? If I were you I鈥檇 do as Vincent Price did鈥? Start getting your name out there to unknown artists and slightly known artists and start buying art that you like. Many people that start out or even have been in the business as long as I have love to find people that just love art and want to own it. EVEN if it is for an investment for your future. This is JUST like a commodities market. Remember, probably 80% of the stuff you purchase will be nothing in the future.. But the 20% just may hit big. PLUS鈥? You like the stuff. Your not going to buy something that you hate or dislike. Time for you to do some short distance traveling. Think about talking to people in other cities etc.. Maybe even Art colleges and ask them who their best students are because you are interested in possible great artists of the future鈥? Some of the biggest art collectors were the framers and suppliers of the artists. Imagine getting a Van Gogh for a couple of paint brushes. A Monet because he wanted a couple of nice canvases鈥? Artists for the most part aren鈥檛 greedy. Just don鈥檛 buy something for $50.00 and resell it for $800.00 in short time frame.. #1 that will get your name out there as a scam. #2 It is ILLEGAL to buy cut rate art and then sell it at a high profit. Let the Artist know that if you DO sell it you'll give them 33% of the profit... Heck.. I have sold paintings for $100.00 just because I like the buyer... Source(s): 20 years professional artist...
