If your interests are in art, but you must open a business to support your self ...? |
to support your self, what kind of business would you open and why? art gallery doesn't count. you can make money being an artist, it just takes a lot of strategical planning. First think about the kind of people who might like your art. Then hit every gallery around your area, if you find one that has art sympathetic to yours, apply. I would stick to Coops and Non profits as they are your most likely chance. Commercial galleries only accept relatively successful artists. IN the meantime hit art fairs, or set up a booth next to a museum. Also a website(s) with your art on it and a price list is an immensely valuable resource. There are other options though, Have you considered teaching- if you have an MFA you can apply for a college level position, otherwise think grades K-12 or about giving private tutorials. A good way to start this is to volunteer at a local camp or community center, if you pitch it right, and they like you they may offer you a paid position after a while. My first go was to find out about different jobs that involve art but have income. There is a thing called art therapy. its like giving therapy through art. Basiclly you need to learn art, phsycoligy and the two together and you give therapy through art. in groups or with single patients. After that you have the whole teaching part- you can teach millions of different kinds of art, at school, kindergarted, after school activities, there are even grown people who start learning art at a later stage in life. So basicly teaching is also a way of getting income out of art. Then you have infront of you the whole art computer industry... graphic desighng, comercial designing, communication designing, interior designing.... all of them have art.
