Career opportunities in ART in the DC area?

I'm going to be moving to the DC area in the spring, other than the Smithsonian Museums, I'm not sure what else the area holds. I'll probably be living in Alexandria, Arlington, or the Falls Church area.. is there anything unique career wise to the area other than the museums and art gallery's?

open your own studio, or become and art teacher! or visit the area you are planning on living in and think, "what is this town missing?"

freelancing for the hell of it or do some graphic design.
