Is a degree in History of Art cool or lame? |
I got a degree in History of Art, and had a great time finding out about, errr, art and stuff. I've got a decent job in IT now, and the only use I've found for it is showing off if I go round a stately home or art gallery. As much as I enjoyed it, it's a bit embarrassing to tell people and has become a bit of a personal joke. So is it lame or cool? In my opinion it is not lame - but I have to question why you'd major in something you feel is lame? Or at age 22+ (I assume since you state you have a degree) do you really still depend on the masses to dictate to you what is cool and what is not? If you wanted to be in IT why didn't you major in computer science? Art History degree = not lame. This question = makes no sense and totally lame. A degree in anything isn't lame. How can bettering yourself in any form of education be lame?? 1. Any liberal arts degree has limited marketability. 2. Any liberal arts degree will boost your I.Q. and your self-improvement. 3. The History of Art is a fascinating subject. No, Art History is fascinating and I would certainly not describe it as lame. It is the best way to learn history. Artists produce art that is directly tied to the culture of the time. So, by studying the art you are also learning history. You also learn a history from the perceptive of different social classes, from rich aristocrats to impoverished farmers. The art describes the way people really lived and what they valued throughout history. Now, that鈥檚 some cool %^&$ to know. Not lame at all. Art history is fascinating. |
