What is the best way of going about selling artwork to a Gallery or Interior Design Company? |
I have a friend who is an amazing artist. Her art was featured in several art galleries in Europe, Canada, Asia, Australia and the United States. She is giving me a commission for each piece I help sell to an Art Gallery or Interior Design Company. What is the best way of going about getting interest from these galleries? For me being able to make a commission off every piece I help sell really makes me want to get sales...and not to mention this work is amazing, she has sold over 2,000 pieces herself... generally you dont sell to galleries: you offer yr work to be exhibited there - whatever sells to the public they take a commission off and give you the rest. Interior design shops buy artwork sometimes - you have to go in there and note carefully the type of thing they like - if your friends work dont fit dont bother. If it does fit then get a good-looking portfolio of her work togather and show them and see if they're interested. if your friend already has gallery representation in several countries, why does she need a non-art dealer such as yourself to sell her work for her? this is the job of the gallery-owner. in order to sell artwork at a high value, you have to have big money friends who you can convince that your friend's art is 'hot' and a good investment to make. if you have no rich friends, and no experience with art, you will have a tough time of it. your friend should be sending out her portfolio to galleries and other institutions who may be interested in the type of stuff she does. but interior design companies have their own in-house designers...why would they buy a piece of artwork? what your friend needs are real connections in the art world. |
