How do you feel like when you walk into an art galleries? |
-how does the physical space/ atmosphere in the gallery affect you emotionally -what are you thinking when you walk in -and how do you interact with the space, the people there and the art work? =) 1.) The physical space adds "weight" to the visit, sort of like entering a library or a church. That makes me take the time to look at everything, even the crap. 2.) If it's a Modern Art museum, upon walking in I'm typically afraid that I will, yet again, get irritated if I see an exhibit of "junk I found on the hiking trail in 48 state parks," or an exhibit of a solitary blue light in a small, bare room. 3.) I interact with the space by exploring every corner, even if the space doesn't "flow" from one exhibit to the other. In fact, I like it when there's a surprise that's in an odd corner, away from the natural foot traffic. I interact with the people by trying to completely avoid anyone.... Sort of like a public restroom. I don't want to look anyone in the eye, shake their hand, or overhear their opinion of why Roy Lichtenstein stole their idea. I interact with the artwork by trying to figure out how the artist created the work, what they were thinking.... Then I realize that any interpretation of their frame of mind is only my own.... Thus making artwork a mirror of the person looking at it. Source(s): pro artist, art history nerd. -I feel calm and contemplative. -"There's a lot of light in an art gallery!!" (because I'm intelligent and deep like that). -I study each painting from a distance, then see it as close up as the guards will let me. I like to see the stroke style and the color tones. Three trips to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston -I feel reverent and introspective. -I feel relaxed and inquisitive. -I am usually thinking about: What made the art worth value? Why is the artwork accepted by the general public or the art world? What process did the artist have to go through to get to the final product? - I like to start by looking up close at the artwork and then once I take it all in, I like to look at it from a distance. I don't interact with people unless I have brought someone and usually we don't discuss it until after we have seen the entire exhibit....then sometimes we will go back and look at a piece together. I always feel deeply emotional because art is my passion and being surrounded by so much creativity by different artists humbles me in a way. I also feel very inspired and usually go to my studio and start creating something new. When I walk in I'm thinking that I can't wait to see something new, interesting and unique. I don't usually talk much--I'd rather be alone with my thoughts and study the art work. I look at everything in a gallery, even if it's not my taste. I try to figure out the artist's process, the medium (if it's not evident to me) and sometimes touch the pieces to get a sense of texture. Now I'm in the mood to go to a couple of galleries! If you are a person that dosn't like art is just going to be boring! I like art and the idea of going to the museum and seen some paintings hanging from the wall is boring! How ever once you go is very different! The colors, the figures of the paintings catches your attention! It makes you feel relax, because you are just watching everysingle line that was painted and the texture and techniques that the artists used! Is pretty awesome for an Artist! |
