How do I get my art into a gallery? Do I need to have a huge body of work first? |
I mostly do drawings and paintings, w some wire and clay sculpture too....oh and I'm in the DFW area. How can I get my writing published? Learning to market our work is all part of the process. Look online, check the "underground" newpapers in your area, as well as the college newpapapers. There is always an arts section. Also, art instructors at colleges know a lot, so ask someone there. The college or university is the best place to start. :-) I would try to exhibit in a smaller gallery. Take a sample of your work and stop in and speak to the gallery owner:) good luck, my daughter is trying to get some of her work exhibited :) Well get people to notice your art by going into important competitions, or just hire a place, or ask them if you could do a little art exhibition there..advertise it..get important people invited who deal with gallery work etc this is interesting! people are trying to steal art from the gallery and u're trying to put yours inside! but frankly i don't really know. perhaps u need to sleep with someone running the shows and hopefully he keeps his promise and give u a remote corner to put up your work. hope this helps! Join an art club or a fine art group , there they will most likely look at your work for acceptance in their group , once you make it in , the society always will have showings through the year around the city , there you will learn ,and have contacts so you can go further into an art gallery . Try starting with local galleries. Ones you can personally go into and remain in contact with the owners. Find out if there are also galleries that specialize in certain art. With your portfolio I recommend you include around a dozen pieces...make sure they are all your best work though, and don't go in trying to explain the piece to the gallery owner...let your work speak for itself and just answer questions as they come. This question gets asked here fairly regularly. you can look at all the questions which have already asked and answered here: see links And you may not need a huge amount of work (when does it get huge for you?), but enough so that you have at least 10-15 really strong pieces for a portfolio. |
