How do I set up and operate an art studio/gallery? |
How do I set up and operate an art studio/gallery? Do you mean an art gallery for displaying work (your own or others) or a studio for creating work (again, your own or for others)? For a gallery, you need to aquire a space, whether it be a room or an actual store. Then you need to make it suitable for displaying artwork - cleanly painted walls and matching podiums (because i forgot the technical name) of varing sizes for displaying pottery, sculpture, etc. Next, you must find something to display. College studiants are a great resource. Not only are they flattered to have their work displayed, but they are desperate for the money from any sale, aswell. Plus, it helps by getting their name out there. For a gallery opening, you need to advertise, work with the artist/artists in coming up with artist statements to have available, and refreshments never hurt. Then pray people show up and buy stuff. For a studio, you must have a fair amount of knowledge as to the type of artwork you wish to create or have people make. Kilns, wheels, paint supplies, clays, printmaking press, what have you. All of those require training and talent - or so my professors would have you believe :) Plus, you'll need lots of money... It depends on how your want to do it. You can have a co-op which would require your artists to work various times throughout the month. Your could have them pay for space with or without advertising. You could do an artist in residence. Lots of different ways. Mostly location, location, location. and lots of desire to succeed! Stick with the artists that could not otherwise afford to show in galleries (not cheap art) and if you build it, advertise it they will come. Good LUCK! Well money is everything .it base on how big the gallery is .If you just wanna operate a small studio\ gallery .the capital of your area could be resonable .the goods that you hold may also be your consideration[to make sure that your gallery can is big enough to stuff your art]you may also consider the cmmunication to the related liberos [artists] or groups fan atalier you mean? hahahaha wondering if i can do one myself...money!!!. sorry i can't help... |
