What should I go to school for If I am a painter who wants my own art gallery? |
Business AND visual arts? Or should I just take some painting classes on the side and really buff up on my managing/business skils? Because you need to know more than how to create it...you have to have a strong foundation in Art History. You must understand what makes a good critique. You must learn how to curate a show...why some paintings work together.etc......you need to know how to write about art...you need to know what makes good art Your business will be based on repeat customers..collectors are a difficult lot to woo. Owning an art gallery you need to be educated in your field/...I would def do a minor in business, art admin, or museum studies I have started and run 2 galleries..it is a constant process of educating yourself and trying to see what is coming down the pipe Major in Business Administration with Fine Arts. As an artist you might find the art side easy :) people like what you paint, or don't, your second feeling is the correct choice, plus you can apply your business knowledge at ANY gallery and consign your own works to it! Yes, do both. Especially if you want to sell your own art. Take business classes and art ones. A double major in Business Management and Art History would probably be a good idea. The character of Charlotte on Sex and the City managed an art gallery for a living, and in one episode they mentioned that that was her double major in college. u should go to sch and acquire more knowledge on ur talent |
