How to set up a art gallery? Find a space. Appoint a curator whether it would be yourself or another. Start by hosting group exhibitions or allow artist to rent out the space. If you're hosting a group exhibition you need to do an artist call or search. People who wish to gain exposure participate and sell their works at the opening reception. Every piece they sell you get a percentage. There also is an entry fee to show the work. My best advice would be to go on deviantart.com. You can post your own art (whether it be a sketch or if you are planning to sell it). People rate your art and it's a great way to get noticed. Rent a large ground floor room and start hanging your pictures. Open at 9am Monday morning. Do not charge a fee to view the artworks but sell instead, including prints etc. i dunno First you need a building with wide blank walls. Second you need to look for some artist that you want to display their work. Third As the art deal you need to advertise art shows coming up. And can buy hanging rods to display artworks A computer and website in today age is also helpful. Is this just for you or others as well,a business or not? I personally wouldn't at first......Join a few Art gallery's and exhibit your work with them,a few are non profit.If you are determined to set up then either encourage a group of members to join in on the venture,say some fellow artists.Any gallery you open to the public needs public liabilities insurance,buildings insurance (if you own or mortgage) There are fire and safety regs to comply with etc etc.These all detract from you exhibiting and actually producing art.It is far better to form a co-operative/committee style run venture so burdens and costs can be shared and door duties too.Giving you at least some time to be creative. |
