I want to go there but i want to major in photography (art). I was looking on the list and i have to take a whole bunch of drawing and sculpting and painting classes as well as photography classes. I can't draw or paint to save my life i just enjoy and ma good at taking pictures. If i want to major in photography, do i have to take all of these classes? As lame as it sounds, art classes like that will give you some insight into angles, tones of color, and a lot more. IT will just help develope your eye for art. They arent going to make you take advanced courses, but the basics will help.
You'll also want to take some business courses, to learn about the business side of taking photos, from recordkeeping, tax prep, business law, and specifics of law regarding contracts, model/property releases, copyright law, etc...
In the long run, you will be better off for these. You may want to look at these three photo schools ... most professional photographers are terrible fine artists too. Don't feel too bad.

http://www.rit.edu As a professional Photographer I was forced to take drawing and art history classes early on in my schooling. I did not want to take them. I went so far as to petition not to have to take them. But in hindsight they are some of the best courses that helped my photography. I eventually went and Graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. Although it is simply one of the best photo schools They did not offer those courses and I feel sorry for those that weren't exposed to the course I had in Junior College.
So it doesn't matter if you are great at those other mediums. It will give your photography a boost that 50 technical classes in photography won't. You will never regret it. |
