How does this sound? Think it'll work?

Alright, I'd talk to my husband about this first but he's busy at work so I thought I'd just get some opinions from all of you.

Ok, I'm 23 and I want both a career and a family. (Sigh, don't we all-- I know). Well, I did the research about waiting to have a kid and my family is NOT a fertile one (mom had two miscarriages and took parents forever to give me a baby sister.) So, I was thinking... I could get an Associate's Degree in Web Design (Webmaster), a Webmaster Certification and then I thought I would also take courses in Micro and Macro economics, and Contemporary Math (linear & exp growth, statistics, and personal finance), a photography course, a creative writing course and a Digital Art Course. That would take three years to complete. Webmaster's average salary is $50,000. I can handle that. And on my resume I'd list all those other courses saying that I am a webmaster but I also have the knowledge of how the economy works, what the trends are, how to ANALYZE these...

trends, what the best course of action would be (as a Webmaster) from a business and economic stand point... plus I'd have an artistic edge that is so important these days in advertising. What do ya'll think? And that way I can have a kid by 26 and a business that I would have control over.

Definitely get a degree first. I'm currently a web designer at an ad agency and I can tell you this: you don't need a background in economics unless you want to be an analyst & you don't need to take creative writing unless you want to be a copywriter. If you are artistic, then a career in web design would be a good fit for you. Start out by doing some more research about the field of advertising. Then when you look for a school, find one that allows you to specialize in the area you're interested in. This will move you ahead in your career faster and more work from home opportunities will become available to you. There's lots of talent in this industry and it's very competitive. Good luck!

Sounds like a great plan hon..Good luck to u.

if only life could be mapped out like that !

Education first, then family. It is much easier to stay up late and work on projects at your current age. Trying to go back and do it later is a much bigger headache.

Also, if you are going to work in the web-space, consider some math courses on numerical computing. I cannot tell you how many engineering types I have had to explain floating-point notation to who just don't get it. -- and I'm the one from liberal arts.

with kind regards.....Finn.

sounds good
