May be a silly question, but are you allowed to bring a camera into the Detroit Institute of Arts?

This is what I read...

Camera and sketching permits are available at the Information Desk. Rules are printed on the permit.
Photography is not allowed in any special exhibition area. Please note: If your group is not following these guidelines, a museum guard may ask you to leave the building.

Does that mean by permit you have to be some big shot photographer and I can't use my 5 megapixel pink kodak camera? I know it says certain exhibitions can't be photographed, but I just wanted some shots because I'm so excited to go.

Please help!

I know the color of my camera doesn't determine the quality of my pics, it was more a joke to add that...

The thing is all of this art is copyrighted. The artists still alive would have the opportunity to sue the Institute. So no photography in those spots.

Just a side note: the color of your camera doesnt mean it doesnt or does take good quality pics.

you can call them and ask......

I think ring them would be a good idea. Sounds like you tell them you want to take some snaps and they say sure and tell you where not to shoot.

a

i called them recently. from what I remember, no cameras are allowed in the special exhibits. no tripods or monopods, no flash photography, and security needs to approve your camera. My guess is that it can't be a DSLR, but I could be wrong. I think your little pink camera will be ok, just shut off the flash.
