Can someone with a degree in Photography teach art at Key Stage 3, 4 and at A-Level? |
Can someone with a degree in Photography teach art at Key Stage 3, 4 and at A-Level? You need to ask yourself if you have the necessary skills to teach the curriculum. Can you draw, do you know about a variety of painting techniques, could you teach sculpture or ceramic skills. A good art teacher must have as much practical knowledge in as many areas as possible, including a sound knowledge of art history. If all you know is photography you may find it extremely hard to teach something you do not know about. As in every subject Art has a body of knowledge that is taught to pupils even though much of it is practical. You need to ask yourself these questions before applying for a PGCE course. You might be able to lecture at college/uni, but you would need a teaching degree to teach in school and possibly college and uni too Does a photography degree cover a wide enough syllabus to teach art? If so, you may just need a post-graduate teaching certificate which should take a year and involve study plus school placements. |
