In my situation is it better to enlist now or to go in as an officer in 4 years?? [ Navy ]? |
I want to pursue a career as a photographer. I'd also like to join the Navy. Is it better to enlist no or join in 4 years as an officer with a photography or arts degree? an arts degree will NOT be competeitve for a commission in the Navy. the Navy needs Hard scinece degrees like Engineering and Computers. thay accept maybe 10-15 new PAOs(Public agffairs Officer) across the board from allCommissioning sources each year.. out of thousands of applicants. Join now. They will pay most of your schooling, and the 4 years count if you should decide to stay in to retire. If you stay you will regret not having the extra years. If you want to actually take photos for a living as part of your Navy career, you should enlist as a photojournalist. Officers are paid a bunch more and their living quarters (in the Navy especially) are much better. Go to college ROTC. depends what you want to do in the navy? a short term- enlist if you wish to make a career being in the navy then either go to rotc or become an officer after enlisting. It depends on what you want to do? Do you want to be a photographer or do you want to be an immediate leader. If you enlist you can review the ratings (job title) that best fit what you want to do. Better chance of getting to use your camera. Hint! Check the chance for advancement in the rating before you take it, most ratings that involve photography are small in number and very slow in advancement. You have to fight for a billet. |
